Montana Bicycle Road Tour 2022

Post by KA2ODP/7 »

The Montana Cycling Project has announced it will be sponsoring a "Montana Road Tour" bicycle ride this June. This is NOT a race, just a 6-day tour of central Montana by bicycle. Each evening the group will stop for the night for a catered meal and a shower. The itinerary is as follows:

26 June 2022 / Day 1 Giant Springs State Park (Great Falls) to Kings Hill Scenic Byway (75 miles)

27 June 2022 / Day 2 Kings Hill Scenic Byway to Harlowton (80 miles)

28 June 2022 / Day 3 Harlowton to Lewistown (55 Miles)

29 June 2022 / Day 4 Layover Day (with optional local ride available)

30 June 2022 / Day 5 Lewistown to Fort Benton (75 miles)

01 July 2022 / Day 6 Fort Benton to Great Falls (55 miles)

For a map outlining the route the bicycle tour will take, plus more information, please visit: www.montanatour.org

The event organizers are seeking Amateur Radio operators willing to assist as safety observers during the 6-day bike ride. Ham radio operators in their vehicles will shadow the riders and notify the sag wagons of anyone needing assistance. Radio communications will take place on a simplex frequency, so a basic FM hand-held 2-meter radio (HT) is ideal.

Radio operators are needed for each day of the bike ride, but you don't have to participate in the entire 6-day tour. If you want to help out on just the Great Falls to Kings Hill leg, or the Fort Benton to Great Falls leg, that is fine too!

If interested in helping out, please contact Paul Miller (K7SGG) at: k7sgg1@hotmail.com
